Wayne Miller in Washington Post |
Milkweed poet Wayne Miller was recently featured in Sunday's Washington Post. In the "Poet's Choice" article Miller divulges the inspiration for the poem "Nude Asleep in the Tub" from his new collection The Book of Props. Miller says he was moved by "Pierre Bonnard's beautiful paintings of interior domestic scenes, many of which are of his wife bathing. I had just moved to New York, shortly after finishing college, and what struck me about the work was Bonnard's ability to create the illusion of flickering light within a static canvas." However, it was not until Miller had himself spent years living with a girlfriend that he acquired the insight to write this particular poem. Read more from Miller in the Washington Post online.
