Milkweed National Fiction Prize
Milkweed is looking for manuscripts of high literary quality that embody humane values and contribute to cultural understanding.

THE PRIZE

Milkweed Editions will award the National Fiction Prize to the best work of fiction Milkweed Editions accepts for publication during each calendar year by a writer not previously published by the press. All eligible manuscripts submitted to Milkweed will automatically be considered for the prize. Judging will be by Milkweed Editions editors, and the winner of the prize will receive a $5,000 cash advance as part of any royalties agreed upon in the contractual arrangement negotiated at the time of acceptance.

SUBMISSIONS

Submissions should adhere to Milkweed’s fiction submission guidelines. Manuscripts should be one of the following: a novel, a collection of short stories, one or more novellas, or a combination of short stories and one or more novellas. Work previously published as a book in the United States is not eligible, but individual stories or novellas previously published in magazines or anthologies are eligible. Manuscripts that have been submitted previously to Milkweed Editions should not be resubmitted. Milkweed Editions’ editors reserve the right not to award the prize for any given year. Milkweed Editions welcomes submissions from international authors.
