In April 2003 wildlife biologist Karsten Heuer and filmmaker Leanne Allison set out on foot and ski to follow the Porcupine caribou herd to its calving ground in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. You are invited to the 9th annual Book Lovers Ball to hear tales and discoveries from their thousand-mile journey. Joining Karsten on stage will be McKnight Distinguished Artist of the Year, essayist and poet, Bill Holm.

Milkweed Editions is one of the nation’s leading non-profit literary presses. Over the years, Milkweed has earned a reputation for books that examine our place in the natural world. In keeping with this tradition, we have taken several steps to "green" this year's Ball. For example, our invitation is printed using vegetable based inks on paper made with process chlorine free 100% postconsumer waste fiber. And, we are not shipping a book with the invitation.
