Milkweed Editions, one of the nation's leading independent, nonprofit literary presses, publishes with
the intention of making a humane impact on society, in the belief that
literature is a transformative art, uniquely able to convey the
essential experiences of the human heart and spirit. We achieve our mission through book publication, the creation of
audiences for emerging writers, the Alliance for Reading program,
community events, and a publishing internship
program
Milkweed Editions has published more than 200 titles in the genres of
fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and (rare among literary presses) books for young readers
ages 8 to 13.
Each year, we send more than 200,000 books to readers across the United States and Canada. Our sales, while robust, do not cover the extensive investment required, often over multiple years, in bringing first-rate new writing into print and finding audiences for these works.
As a non-profit literary press, Milkweed Editions depends on
philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations
who recognize the importance of literature to our culture.
Please
consider a tax-deductible gift to Milkweed Editions. Our fiscal year is
