literate places in the country. In this special edition of Talk of the Stacks moderated by
Minnesota Public Radio's Marianne Combs, executive directors from Milkweed Editions, Graywolf Press, Coffee
House Press, and The Loft Literary Center will discuss why so
many nationally-recognized literary organizations have thrived here, tell tales
of the literary life, and share their vision of what readers and writers can
expect in the days ahead!
A selection of books from the local publishers will be for sale before and after the event. Complimentary light refreshments will be served.

Director Haydn Reiss recently released a new film, Every War Has Two Losers: A Poet's Meditation on Peace based on Milkweed's book Every War Has Two Losers: William Stafford on Peace & War edited by Kim Stafford. Both film and book reveal why the conscientious objector and award-winning poet William Stafford was dedicated to nonviolence even in a time of war. Alex Lemon in New York Times and Publishers Weekly

The New York Times book blog recently featured an interview with memoirist and Milkweed poet Alex Lemon. The exchange reveals what Lemon is working on, a typical day in his writing life, and which books he's reading and recommending lately. Milkweed will release Lemon's forthcoming poetry collection, Fancy Beasts, in mid-February 2010. Publishers Weekly recently cheered the new book, calling it "full of raw energy."
